So there I was, driving home from SF and my meeting ([livejournal.com profile] dafydd, I'm scared - I actually think I'm going to enjoy working with S-the-rat-bastard *grin*), feeling a little disconnected as I attempted to process the funeral plans, and something in the back of my head said "Hey - it's Thursday. You're gonna be driving past the bar anyway. Go sing something." So I send [livejournal.com profile] kor27 a text message asking what the rotation looks like; he pings me back and asks what I want to sing. "Something upbeat," I tell him.

I walked through the front door about 90 seconds before he called my name. ;-) And was immediately enveloped by [livejournal.com profile] timenchanter; thank you, sweetie - that was precisely what I needed. I would have luxuriated in it a bit longer had circumstance permitted, but I didn't want to shout in your ear so Bruce knew I was there.

  • Del Amitri - Roll To Me - "Upbeatish, anyway," was Bruce's response to my request. I was a little unsteady with it, but that largely matched my mental state.
  • Scissor Sisters - Take Your Mama - I had actually mentioned this one to [livejournal.com profile] jannypanlj during the meeting (you really DO need to come down some night, hon!), and it is a serious crowd pleaser. (GAH. My brain just said "I R serius crowdpleaser. This R serius thread." Make it stop, mommy!)

It was pushing midnight by the time I finished that second song, and I still had to come into work today, so I headed out...but not before I got lots of hugs from everyone, including a couple from [livejournal.com profile] supersniffles as we did the "ships that pass in the night" routine - and a tentative invite to a party tomorrow that left me feeling like one of the Cool Kidstm on a night where I really needed that kind of validation.

Let me take a minute here to thank all of you for being so kind as you learned the news; I really don't want to milk this, but it has been weighing on me a lot this week.

i don't actually own any karaoke of my own. i should prolly look into getting something ripped which has some of the quirkier ones i enjoy.
if dj pat had his way, i'd sing "bring me to life" with him every week. rolls eyes*

Ah... since I have no interest in karaoke I didn't know that. I can see why that would be annoying.

Happy to be of service, dear - I'm just glad I saw the message.

With the present Rube Goldberg™ setup, I keep my phone under an overhang, and I don't always see when a message comes in...

And, of course, it was great to see (and hear) you, as always.

The invite was not particularly tentative, and you are one of the Cool Kids™.
