Chris Baldwin must be reading my email. Or my IRC logs. Or my journal. ;-)

The landlord was here about an hour ago, installing a new filter in the heater (there apparently hasn't been one in it at least as long as Doug and I have lived here, and ghod only knows if B___ and C______ ever bothered with something like that - no wonder this damn place is so dusty). Only now has it occurred to me that:

  1. I could've given him the rent check while he was here, since K____ gave us his share early (he's off visiting relatives for the next two weeks) and we actually have the money in the account early for a change.
  2. I could've asked him about Rose's credit check. I'm perfectly willing to operate on the theory that no news is good news, but she's been nervous about it - and I suppose I would be too if I was planning to completely uproot and relocate cross-country.

Silly Koosh....

So I'd been in bed about an hour last night (and any links you can give me for info on slow-sleep would be appreciated, Christophine - I couldn't find any). It sounded like Doug was having a nightmare, so I reached over to just touch him gently, not wanting to startle him too much, but to bring him out of it any way I could. He eventually came to with a start and said "Oh, god, that was awful."

"What happened?" I asked, knowing that talking my way through the events usually helps me, at least.

"I was trying to tell you I was having a seizure...."

This, as you might imagine, was not the answer I was expecting.

I think I got about an hour's sleep after that. If I wasn't just coming back from a three-day weekend (about which more later), work would not be seeing my smiling snarling face today; as it is, I'm out of here as soon as I can possibly manage.

I am such a sucker. ;-) Stopped at Bath & Body Works this afternoon on my way home from work, 'cause Mom got me one of those Wallflower scent things for Hanukkwanzmastice and it was well past time to buy a new refill. And the queen behind the counter (I'm sorry, that's the only way to describe this boy) reminded me of Matt from the Daybreak - and I haven't thought of him in a million years....

They were having a mix-n-match, buy-three-get-one-free sale.

I mixed, and matched, and bought three. *sigh*

And landed a new addiction in the process.... The label says "Purely Silk Body Lotion." I am certain this is only because they figured something called "Sex In A Bottle" wouldn't go over very well with older demographics. (This purchase, at least, I was able to justify in my head 'cause I've been out of lotion for a while, and my skin's been frighteningly dry this winter.) It absorbs, like, immediately - I put some on my hands and immediately started using the keyboard again without fear of sliming all the letters off. ;-)

In other news, I dropped a letter off at my doctor's office this morning, asking about calling my HMO for an override. She's not in the office on Mondays, so it's gonna be at least another day before I'm back on the meds....

And I don't get to spend Wednesday with dafydd this week. *pout* He's training in San Leandro for a new part-time EMT gig all week, and getting up entirely too early to make the commute. (Well, for some values of "early," anyway. By my work schedule, he's sleeping in for three hours....) So I'm working an extra half-shift on Thursday morning to keep my brain occupied. We're going to San Luis Obispo again next weekend, so the extra money will come in handy for expenses. And I'll get to see him Saturday night at BeachBurn, so it's not like I'll totally be in withdrawal by next Wednesday.

Just mostly. ;-)

Kerry spoke to our landlord today, wondering if he was going to have to sign a new lease (our current one is up at the end of the month) when he was planning on leaving in two months. While he had the landlord on the phone, he asked what the rental increase was likely to be, so we'd be able to put that in our ads (if we did decide to stay here and look for a new roommate).

The landlord said the following:
  1. He won't require a new lease to be signed until a new roommate takes residency.
  2. Since Doug and I (as the primary leaseholders) would still be here, the rent increase is still covered under SF rent-control laws, and would only be 2-3%.

This, as you might imagine, is a remarkable load off our minds.

Now we just have to hope that an excellent credit report and two letters of reference will be enough to convince the landlord to let us bring in someone who's just moved to the West Coast and isn't working yet....

Our one remaining roommate just informed me that a friend of his is relocating from New York in June, and they're going to be getting a place together. Kerry has promised that he'll be as proactive as possible in helping us find a new roommate in the next two months, but this was just not what I needed to hear right now....

My roommate, the chef, just brought home a live lobster for a recipe contest entry he's working on. (He would have been happy with just lobster tails, but the store didn't have any.) And we didn't have a pot large enough for him to cook it in one piece....

"I used to have to do this at Jardiniere [the restaurant where he did his externship while he was still at CCA] all the time," he said. "Doesn't make it any easier." There's something oddly comforting about that.

*yawn*

Someone explain to me why I never have the sense to go to sleep when I first start to feel tired.
