This would explain why I can't get anywhere on your afghan, [livejournal.com profile] dafydd....

On my way home from [livejournal.com profile] murphymom's Friday evening, I made my first visit to Commuknity, a yarn shop located a few blocks from the Shark Tank.

OMG shinyshinyshiny *poing*poing*poing*BOOM*

I could've stayed there for hours just petting yarn (and they'd've let me - it was a UFO Friday, where they stay open until 11pm and let people sit in their living room and work on UnFinished Objects...). There was a hank of Colinette Point Five in the Florentina colorway hanging on the wall, begging me to take it home and make dreadfalls with it, and recycled sari silk, and cashmerino, and self-striping sock yarn, and books, and beautifully carved wooden crochet hooks, and and and. ;-) Amazingly (particularly as I had just gotten my completion bonus - finally! - for the NurseWeek gig), I got out of there with just a set of stitch markers (which I needed because I'm planning on making Clapotis [assuming my obsession with Jayne hats calms down some time soon], though I still need to get in some practice with basic stitches before I think I dare try it, even with cheap acrylic yarn).

[livejournal.com profile] jilesa, you must come visit again so we can go play (and so you can tell me if you have the book I almost got for your wintergift or not *grin*).

I'm enabling you.

I wound up with an extra track at the beginning of one of the copies of FF&M, somehow - but it's just six seconds of dead air. I can deal with this.

I still don't know why eJay decided it was going to be such a PITA last night; I ran scandisk and started a defrag on the 'puter before I went to bed, and it had completed with no problems when I came out here this morning. *shrug*

So Doug and I burned one of the two new CDs before we went to bed last night. I did the labels, the liner cards, and the tray inserts for the two copies we made (one for the party, one to send to JG in Bosnia) and was feeling quite pleased with myself when I was done.

So you can imagine my reaction when Doug came into the bedroom this morning and said that we'd duplicated a track from the first disc.

*siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh*

I think we've got a replacement picked out, and I can find good homes for "the beta versions" as we've come to think of them. And it's not as though blank CDs are hard to come by.

But it still pisses me off.

So it looks like there's going to be three discs, all told - and, as befits my never-what-you-expected mindset, I've compiled the first and last ones. And before anyone asks: sorry, but copies won't be available. We're making one set for the party, and one set to mail to one of the folx who was at the party last year, but has since been deployed to Bosnia (we're gonna get a desktop-sized Bosnian flag for the room, put it up, and label that "John's Corner"). That said, here are the playlists so far. Enjoy....

I'll probably finish the third disc here and there this week - maybe Wednesday night if I don't wind up adding a shift on Thursday. And I need to get back over to Office Despot Depot and buy more blank tray inserts and liner note cards so I can finish the jewel cases.

This is fun.

So here I sit with two exceedingly professional-looking CDs on my monitor...labels on the discs, tray cards and liner notes in the jewel cases...and all I can think of is Chris Carter's production-company stinger:

I made this!

I'll probably post the playlists when I'm done with the second CD. For now I'm just gonna sit here and say "Hey, wow" a lot.

We need DSL.

I'm putting together the playlist for the CD we're burning for the Traveller party at BayCon next month...Doug asked for recommendations on the mailing list(s), and I've been prowling Napster to find some of the more obscure titles.

Have you ever tried to download an 8 meg MP3 at 26.4?

I can always wait till after midnight eastern, when the server load ought to be down - but then I run the risk of the silly things not being there, or the user I'm pulling from logging off in the middle, as happened the other night when I just left my connection running when I went to bed.

Of course, since nobody else wants to download from someone with this slow a connection, I don't have that to complicate the issue. Small comfort.
