kshandra: Cartoon drawing of a sheep, knitting a striped sock (Knitting)
Do any of my fellow crafty types have any eyelash yarn sitting in their stash that they're never going to use? I've got this urge to make Burning Man-friendly boas...I bought a whole bunch of flag yarn for this purpose, but nothing I've worked up with it has really looked right yet. AHA! It was just a question of using the right tool for the job. I re-discovered a pair of Size 17 knitting needles I forgot I had (a giveaway at the one Stitch & Pitch event I attended at AT&T Park), and I'm finally starting to see what I had envisioned appear. I won't say no if you still have something you'd like to destash in my direction, but it's no longer thwarting me quite as heavily.

On my way home from [livejournal.com profile] murphymom's Friday evening, I made my first visit to Commuknity, a yarn shop located a few blocks from the Shark Tank.

OMG shinyshinyshiny *poing*poing*poing*BOOM*

I could've stayed there for hours just petting yarn (and they'd've let me - it was a UFO Friday, where they stay open until 11pm and let people sit in their living room and work on UnFinished Objects...). There was a hank of Colinette Point Five in the Florentina colorway hanging on the wall, begging me to take it home and make dreadfalls with it, and recycled sari silk, and cashmerino, and self-striping sock yarn, and books, and beautifully carved wooden crochet hooks, and and and. ;-) Amazingly (particularly as I had just gotten my completion bonus - finally! - for the NurseWeek gig), I got out of there with just a set of stitch markers (which I needed because I'm planning on making Clapotis [assuming my obsession with Jayne hats calms down some time soon], though I still need to get in some practice with basic stitches before I think I dare try it, even with cheap acrylic yarn).

[livejournal.com profile] jilesa, you must come visit again so we can go play (and so you can tell me if you have the book I almost got for your wintergift or not *grin*).
