kshandra: White text on a blue button: "Better watch now, because things could go wrong in a hurry." (Keith - Better Watch Now)
I picked this one because I loved the artist's editorial commentary on his drawing style...and then it turned out to be a two-fer on the challenge topic!

kshandra: California custom license plate reading ♥KOOSH (Koosh Plate)
One of the things that has kept me from making a "driving to BRC" playlist is that there are too many songs that I want to be first. This is one of them.

kshandra: The stylized 7 sigil that featured in the "New Moon On Monday" video (Duran Duran)
backdated to the point where I was lying in bed last night and realized I'd forgotten to post...

I'm going to try not to duplicate acts too often, but there was really no other choice for this one.

It's been a decade since our last date. It's been at least five years since the last good email address I had for him started returning not-found errors. I said some incredibly hurtful things to him at one point that I've regretted for years, but I quite literally don't even know if he's alive at this point (the men in his family tend to have abbreviated lifespans).

If you're out there somewhere, tiger, I hope you're happy.
kshandra: The Burning Man effigy, lit in blue neon, arms by his sides; an orange half-moon is visible over his shoulder. (Default)
Nothing in particular about the lyrics, but it just feels to me like a song built for cruising the main drag with all the windows open on a blistering hot day.

(sadly, this is the best copy of the video I could find...)

I should really be catching up on work, but you know how it is.

This used to be a first-day-of-the-year meme, but doing it on the last day makes sense, too.

There used to be a lot more minutiae involved with this, but I don't have the brainpower to try and figure it out across the two platforms right now. (I did take this opportunity to start moving my RSS feeds from LJ to DW.)

Describe yourself in five sentences or less:
Stolen from my abortive attempt at LJ Idol Season 9: Life long San Francisco Bay Area resident, married since 1991 to [personal profile] gridlore, also a Bay Area native. I'm morbidly obese and middle aged. I trend toward the introverted side of ambiversion, and self identify as a recovering depressive (directly analogous, IMO&E, to being a recovering alcoholic). My passions are science fiction conventions and Burning Man, both attending and volunteering; my current Default World boss is someone I work with in the desert. I have too many stuffed animals and not enough bookshelves, too many half-finished craft projects and not enough hours in the day to finish them.
Top 5 Fandoms:
I'm old enough that I remember the days before that word became quite so balkanized - but I also realize that it was a time when the word referred to F&SF to the exclusion of most all else, so I'm coming around on that point. If I had to give a list, it would probably be (in no particular order) 80's music, classic Doctor Who (I'll watch New!Who, but it's never captured me in quite the same way), [livejournal.com profile] seanan_mcguire's Toby Daye novels, Kushiel's Legacy, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I'm an erstwhile pundit fan and still moderate Texts from the Anchor Desk (officially the co-mod, but the blog founder hasn't been on Tumblr in a while).
I mostly post about:
Day-in-the-life stuff, with occasional descents into the land of memes.
My last three posts were about:
One about seeing The Nutcracker with my mother and two about the death of my grandfather.
How often do you post? How about commenting?
I'm better about the latter than the former, though truth be told I'm not very good at either. ;-) I took part in NaBloPomo last month in the hopes that it would get me posting on a regular basis again, and it's helped a little bit, but I'm still nowhere near as prolific as I was in the early days of my journal.
A GIF to describe how your day has been so far:
kshandra: Sinfest character Slick sits at his laptop, poking the keyboard; the words "refresh refresh refresh" hover over his head (5-Minute-Refresh)
Imported from FB in lieu of actual content today.

  1. Are you named after someone?
Not to the best of my knowledge. My first name isn't from family, and almost every female I've met who was born in about an 18-month window around my birthday has the same middle name.
  2. When is the last time you cried?
I honestly can't recall. I'll mist up over damn near anything, though.
  3. Do you like your handwriting?
It's been better. I'm woefully out of practice.
  4. What is your favorite lunch meat?
  5. Do you have kids?
The stuffed animals don't count, do they?
  6. Do you use sarcasm?
    Never heard of it. </dry>
  7. Do you still have your tonsils?
  8. Would you bungee jump?
  9. What is your favorite kind of cereal?
Golden Grahams. If I'm feeling particularly decadent, I'll use chocolate milk.
  10. Do you untie your shoes when you take them off?
Rarely, even though I know they'll last longer.
  11. Do you think you're strong?
"I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish that He didn't trust me so much." --anonymous, frequently misattributed to Mother Teresa
  12. What is your favorite ice cream?
    Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Therapy.
  13. What is the first thing you notice about people?
    It depends on the interaction.
  14. Football or baseball?
    *insert George Carlin routine here*
  15. What is the least favorite thing you like about yourself?
    Where do I start?
  16. What color pants are you wearing now?
  17. What was the last thing you ate?
An organic chocolate truffle from Costco. [livejournal.com profile] lysana once described these as "chocolate satori," and she's not wrong.
  18. What are you listening to right now?
    The clack of my keyboard.
  19. If you were a crayon, what color would you be?
    Purple, natch.
  20. Favorite smell?
    Wood smoke. Sandalwood. Vanilla.
  21. Who was the last person you spoke to on the phone?
A customer calling with a last-minute order change.
  22. Favorite sport to watch?
It used to be figure skating, but got out of the habit before the scoring system changed, and I've never managed to get a good handle on the new system.
  23. Hair color?
    Brown, liberally sprinkled with gray.
  24. Eye color?
Brown. If I've been crying a lot, they go green.
  25. Favorite food?
  26. Scary movies or happy ending?
Doesn't have to be a happy ending, necessarily, but it better not be scary.
  27. Last movie you watched?
In full? Doctor Strange. Caught a chunk of Woodstock on TV last week.
  28. What color shirt are you wearing?
Faded purple with bleach stains, because I'm lazy.

[livejournal.com profile] labelleizzy posted a meme wherein they were asked to write about six of their userpics. If you comment "Meme Me" I will pick six of your userpics that you can then write about, thus maintaining meme balance in the journal-verse. Feel free to propagate or not, ask people to ask you for six userpics, as you like.

samuraiI entered a raffle at LeatherMasters (and need I tell you that link is NSFW?) and won a boudoir photography session; I still see occasional credits online for the photographer, but he appears to have no web presence whatsoever. Hard to believe it's been twenty years since I had that photo taken...

nudeEight years later, and there I was, taking my clothes off in front of the camera again. This was from a session with my then-lover [livejournal.com profile] yohannon for the fetish photography site he was attempting to run at the time; it never quite came together due to a bad case of Life for several of the involved parties, but it's fun to freak people out by telling them casually "Yeah, I had naked pics for sale on the Internet."

PonyPonyPony![livejournal.com profile] squigglz was drawing MLP versions of her friends for a while; this was mine. The cutie mark was intended to be a koosh ball.

ButtercupButtercup was always my favorite of the Powerpuff Girls. (Damn, the artist who drew this originally appears to have buggered off the net, and I don't even have a copy of the full piece, showing all three of them as teenagers, to show off.)

LivejournalAh, the bad old days... I'm trying to remember if this predates [livejournal.com profile] power_loss or not.

PiffanyPiffany was the Lawful Good cleric from Aaron Williams' Nodwick, who carried a roll of Duct Tape of Healing with her. I used this icon when talking to/about one of my exes, who always triggered my protective instincts.

Anybody else?
